The International JourneymanTM scheme is a unique training project
aiming to tackle the engineering skills shortage
by improving the employability of young people while also
increasing the competitiveness of companies in the North East.

Apprentices across the region now have the opportunity
to train at Les Compagnons du Devoir, a highly
reputable training organisation based in France.
Dating back from the 16th Century,
they are dedicated to perfection of skill in a variety of trades.

Those wishing to train with
Les Compagnons du Devoir must be determined to succeed.
It is motivation that is most important- not
academic acheivement. Determination and stamina is a must as
this apprenticeship is not easy.

The application process also involves a 3 week trial period in which
the applicant is shadowed by an apprentice during his/her three week placement with
Les Compagnons du Devoir in France. This is to ensure the apprentice
gains insight into the International JourneymanTM experience and is ready
for the 2 year apprenticeship if they wish to continue
their training with us. Preparation and throughout the placement is provided
in affiliation with the Regional Technology Centre (RTC)

The apprenticeship will take place over 2 years in France.
Apprentices will work for a French company
(selected by Les Compagnons du Devoir)
and live within the organisation's provided accommodation.

There is also opportunity to train further
on the internationally renowned

'Tour de France'
